The only minor "complaint" I would have is that I wish I could remove some of the pages. My parents just recently divorced and there are several pages all about the grandparents' wedding, first years, and all about how he feels about grandmother, etc.
It'a not bad, I just wish it focused solely on the grandfather Nothing is perfect for any family dynamic, but being able to tweak a few things here and there would make this a five-star purchase.
Grandfather Remembers: Memories for My Grandchild by Judith Levy
I purchased a copy of this book for both my father and my father-in-law as Christmas gifts this year along with the "Grandmother Remembers" for the grandmas! I am currently pregnant, and wrote a little note "from the baby" asking each grandfather to write in their thoughts and memories to give to the baby next Christmas when he'll be around 7 months old. Both my dad and FIL were so excited to get the books. What a lasting, meaningful gift to share with their grandson!
In it, there are so many cool things to write about with prompts. It moves sequentially, starting with their own ancestry and childhood, schooling, relationships, jobs and careers, meeting grandma, having their own children, and their thoughts on their grandchild. It has places to sprinkle in advice, wisdom, humor, and even photos.
I certainly think this book is better-suited toward 'traditional' families, meaning those with grandparents who are still married. Although, they could certainly choose to leave out certain information if they wished. Looking back, I wish that I had something like this from my own grandparents.
- Alla Cracovienne, Op. 7 (Violin Part).
- The Do-Over.
- The Cottage on The Fell.
- Unsolved: The Delphi murders - A grandfather remembers.
- The Stress-Free Guide to Studying in the States – a Step-by-Step Plan for International Students.
- Grandfather remembers Jake Wilson one year after he disappeared.
- Grandfather Remembers: Memories for My Grandchild: Judith Levy: Masthof: Books.
Preserving their words and memories long after they could share them themselves. Overall, I liked this book, which I bought for him to fill out for my infant sons. It gave my father prompts that assisted him in reflecting on his childhood, early adulthood and early years of marriage to my mother. However, the book is clearly geared toward grandfathers who were born in the U. My father was born and raised in Ireland, so some of the questions were not applicable to him like his favorite comic book--comic books were not commonly available in Ireland when he was a boy.
Also, I think that many of the questions about the marriage of the grandparents could be uncomfortable when the grandparents are no longer married to one another, as is the case with my parents.
